Sunescape FAQS


 

THE SOLUTION IS SITTING ON THE SKIN OR BLEEDING ON THE CLIENT

  • This is most likely caused by three possible reasons:
  • Too much solution is being sprayed on the client because the setting on the gun is not correct. Try adjusting the settings and be sure to test on another surface before continuing on the skin.
  • The client has not prepared their skin correctly, and have perfume or moisturizer on their skin.
  • The client may be excessively hot and perspiring.
  • If this does occur, you can blend the surface by using a big fluffy brush or dab with a towel and then reapply.

 

THE TAN IS PATCHY

  • This is usually caused by clients not prepping their skin correctly. If tan residue is left over from a previous tan, and the client has not exfoliated sufficiently, the skin may appear patchy. Please make sure you advise all clients of the correct pre-tan protocol.
  • This may also be caused by friction from dressing before the tan has dried. Once again, this can be easily resolved by ensuring the client wears loose clothing to dress after the tan and drying themselves before they re-dress.
  • If the tan has grabbed in patches, once again this is usually caused by insufficient exfoliation and/or using barrier crème in those areas.


THE TAN IS TOO LIGHT

  • The gun is being held too far away, or being sprayed too quickly causing less product to be applied and resulting in a finish that is too light.
  • Client may be extremely fair. Note that clients with fair skin will have a different result to a client with a more olive complexion. A client may like to try a darker shade the next time they tan, although we advise that a client is probably better to be too light than too dark. This can be discussed with the client to establish their preference.
  • Client may have showered or perspired before the tan had time to fully develop. You can recommend the client to leave it on a little longer if you believe this is the case. For best results, avoid having a long hot shower. When washing off the tan for the first time, be sure to only have a quick warm shower and use sulfate free body wash such as Sunescape’s Hydrating Shower Gel.
  • The solution used may be old or out of date reducing the reaction to the skin. Sometimes a green hue will be seen if this is the case.
  • Other factors that can effect the tan’s development include diet, hormones and medication. Please discuss these possibilities with the client.


THE TAN IS TOO DARK

  • Some clients will have a lower tolerance to DHA (due to a fairer complexion) and may become darker than desired. It may also be the result of choosing a the wrong shade. If a client is concerned about being too dark, it is better to start with our light or medium solution that have lower DHA levels and also apply a thinner or lighter coat.
  • The client may also have left the rapid tan on for too long.

 

THE COLOUR DID NOT LAST

  • Client may not have prepped their skin as advised and/or followed the post care tan protocols – eg: did not exfoliate, moisturized before the tan, used soaps or shower gels containing sodium laurel sulphate after the tan, did not moisturize after the tan, swam in chlorinated pools etc.
  • Ensure that the client understands all of the pre and post tan care protocols before their next tan.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LEAVE MY TAN ON FOR LONGER?

  • For clients having a Sunescape tan for the first time, we would recommend only leaving the tan on for 2-3 hours. Please note, once you shower this will not be your final colour. Because the tan continues to develop for a further 6-8 hrs after it’s washed off, please make sure you explain this to your client. It is for this reason that for best results we recommend the tan is applied the DAY BEFORE a special event.
  • If you want your tan to look darker, we recommend you go up in a shade you choose rather than leave it on for longer. Your tan will look more natural by washing off in the advised time. However if clients want to, they can leave it on for 4 hours for a more intense result.
